“We have a really diverse group of kids at Northridge and I think he’s going to work really well with those kids. “I think he’ll relate really well to the type of kids we have at Northridge,” Rasmussen said. Rasmussen is excited to see how Johnson relates to the kids. Both at Roy and at Brighton we were able to do those things.” Kids like playing in that kind of system. Upon graduating from Weber State, Johnson started teaching at Ogden High School, where he was an assistant basketball and football coach. After playing football and basketball for the Rebels, Johnson attended Weber State University. Johnson graduated from Rich High School in Randolph in 1993. “It’s kind of a strange story that I would be there to pick up socks and that would lead to me applying for a basketball position and teaching and then getting it.” I applied, went through the interview process, everything went well and fortunately for me I was able to get the job. “(Rasmussen) just said to me, ‘You’re not interested in coaching basketball,’ and I said, ‘Yes, I am.'” Johnson said. The day he went to pick them up was the day Chad Sims was hired at Davis High School to replace Jay Welk. Johnson thought he had shipped baseball materials to Rasmussen for his son, but instead, Rasmussen received a box of Under Armour socks. He has been working for Universal Athletic, a company that sells athletic equipment to schools. Johnson, 39, moved to Wyoming with his wife, Brandee, and son following the 2010-11 season. And the longer you live the more you realize what you are. “I should have kept coaching and teaching. “I should never have gotten out,” said Johnson, who spent two years as head coach at Roy and eight more at Brighton before resigning in 2011.
